  2. ELECTRONIC CLIPPER USER'S GUIDE

  4. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to 
  5. use your computer and the programs you have purchased for it.
  6.  
  7. BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  8. ------------------
  9.  
  10. Electronic Clipper images require application(s) that are compatible
  11. with TIFF and/or EPS file formats. The TIFF images are saved as TIFF
  12. (version 5.0) files in Adobe Photoshop. EPS images are saved as Adobe
  13. Illustrator 1.1 files. Any other hardware requirements will be based
  14. primarily on the applications you use and the type of final output
  15. you plan to produce. For best results, your printer should be 
  16. PostScript compatible.

  18. ART SELECTION
  19. -------------
  20. ** Printed Pictorial Index **
  21. This provides thumbnail and file name for each image in the issue.
  22.  
  23. USING THE CLIP ART
  24. ------------------
  25. ** PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAMS **
  26. Open your page layout program, create a new document and place the 
  27. TIFF and EPS files as you would any other pictures. The following 
  28. page layout programs are compatible with both TIFF & EPS file 
  29. formats:
  30.  *PageMaker
  31.  *QuarkXpress
  32.  *Corel Publisher
  33.  
  34. ** DRAW PROGRAMS **
  35. Open your draw program, then Open or Import the EPS file. These 
  36. images can be manipulated like any other EPS image. The following 
  37. draw programs are compatible with the EPS file format:
  38.  *Adobe Illustrator
  39.  *FreeHand (TIFF files can be placed into a document)
  40.  *Corel Draw! (TIFF files can be imported into a document)
  41.  *Deneba Canvas
  42.  
  43. Many of your Electronic Clipper EPS images are provided as layered 
  44. illustrations. This means that several elements can be lifted out 
  45. of a single image and used as stand-alone artwork. In order to pull 
  46. apart or separate the layers of an EPS file, a PostScript draw 
  47. program is necessary.

  49. ** PAINT PROGRAMS **
  50. The TIFF files can be the following:
  51.  *300 dpi black-and-white images
  52.  *170 dpi grayscale images
  53.  *170 dpi and 300 dpi photos
  54.  *170 dpi and 300 dpi color images
  55. They can be manipulated like any other TIFF image in the 
  56. following programs:
  57.  *Adobe Photoshop (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
  58.  *Micrografx Picture Publisher (EPS images are converted to
  59.   bitmap images. Note: Must rename image with .ai extension)
  60.  *Corel Photo-Paint (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
  61.  *Deneba Canvas
  62.  
  63. If your application was not listed above, please refer to your 
  64. manual for compatibility.
